HARLOW HILL

Harlow Hill lies on the line of Hadrian’s Wall

The village of Harlow Hill lies on the line of Hadrian’s Wall and is the site of Milecastle 16, a former fort depicting the 16th Roman mile of the historical wall. The hamlet is located approximately 12 miles from the bustling city of Newcastle upon Tyne yet sits in wide open countryside with stunning views over the Tyne Valley.

The picturesque Tyne Valley villages of Stamfordham, Wylam, Heddon and Matfen are all close by, and offer a range of local amenities including shops, pubs, cafes, doctor’s surgeries and schools.

The larger village of Ponteland is situated approximately 8 miles to the north west, while the historic village of Corbridge and popular market town of Hexham are also a short drive away, offering a fantastic range of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, a theatre, cinema, hospital and leisure centre as well as Hexham Racecourse.

For the commuter, the Military Road passes by Harlow Hill and is convenient for the A69 which gives excellent access to Newcastle to the east and Carlisle to the west. The nearby railway station in Wylam provides frequent services to Newcastle and Carlisle where connecting main line rail services are available to major UK cities. Newcastle international Airport lies just 9.5 miles to the east making it easily accessible.

For education, there is an OFSTED rated outstanding first school in Stamfordham, with schools for all ages in Ponteland and Hexham. In addition, there is Mowden Hall Preparatory School just outside Stocksfield together with several private day schools in Newcastle.

Both Close House and Matfen Hall are close by, with an excellent range of leisure facilities, including golf courses, swimming pool, gym, spa and an award-winning restaurant.
